It was our long-awaited holiday.

At the airport, before catching the plane over to Ibiza, we were looking at a few websites about things to do in Ibiza and we stumbled upon a couple of posts about Formentera, a little island to the south of Ibiza. The photos of the beaches, with that crystal-clear water and gleaming white sand, literally bowled us over and we made ourselves a promise to take a day trip to Formentera. We improvised it. It was a last-minute decision. Last minute to Formentera.

                      Rigatoni

And that’s
just how it happened. After five days in Ibiza, we set off on our little outing
to Formentera. Without planning a single thing. Without knowing what we’d come
across.

We arrived in the port of La Savina on one of the first ferries in the morning (you can find all the sailing times on this website: proximoferry.com). Nice and early, because we wanted to make the most out of the day. Luckily, the weather was also on our side. A fantastic sun, although admittedly a bit on the warm side.

Right in the port, we rented a scooter to travel the seventeen kilometres from one end of the island to the other and explore all the off-road trails. We went to the beach of Ses Illetes. Too many people for our liking, but it has to be one of the best beaches in the whole of Europe. Fortunately, access by motor vehicle is limited, so when the car parks are full, you’re only allowed to get there on foot or on a bike.

                      Waital

By midday,
we’d already had enough sun, so we headed south to find a place to have lunch.
We ate at a restaurant on Migjorn Beach. Spectacular paella. Of the best we’ve
ever tasted. After eating, we relaxed in the shade for a bit and then headed up
to La Mola. We were in luck as it was the hippy market day, so we spent a few
euros on local crafts. Late in the afternoon, we had time to pop to another
outstanding beach, Cala Saona, from where we admired a spectacular sunset. Once
the sun had gone down, we jumped on the scooter over to the port and caught one
of the last ferries of the day back to Ibiza.

This year,
we’ve come straight to Formentera, where we’ll spending a week exploring all
the places that we fell in love with last year. Lots of Formentera fans like us
started off with a simple day trip to the island.

Luckily, we bought the ferry tickets online at booking.proximoferry.com and we saved a few euros and skipped the line, because we had the boarding passes on our phones.

Next year,
even more.

Andrea
& Pau

We’re a couple aged 28 and 26, and last year we were enjoying a few days of chill-out time in Ibiza.
